Bonus gem
The sheer title of this GreenBiz entry is worth gem status alone:
All bank accounts being equal, is it not easier for a less developed country to shift to cleaner sources of energy? The US is so dependent on fossil fuels in part because its massive infrastructure is built around them. Businesses rightly look out for their financial interests, and it is a huge burden for them to scrap their factories and build new ones. But where there are no factories, it should be easier to start fresh and right, no?
I'd like to say yes. But it's not just about the fossil fuel infrastructure--from a systematic perspective, all countries, developing or developed, face seismic challenges to achieve truly sustainable economies and societies. These challenges are financial, of course, but they're also psychological and social. That's why this headline is a gem--as if money alone was all we need for this global transition.
